THE UNSPEAKABLE FREEDOM DEVICE is an experimental narrative film and multimedia sculptural installation. Through allegorical narrative, the work explores how affiliation alters meaning, focussing on the image of Margaret Thatcher as an ‘afterburn’ on our collective memory and politics. Notably, the film and installation was due to be shown prior to the last general election, but was postponed by Blackpool Council on the grounds that it could influence future election results, invoking ‘purdah’; the period of time prior to an election when the Council cannot be seen to favour any of the candidates over others. Join us for the launch of the UNSPEAKABLE FREEDOM DEVICE book, which continues the logic of the film as a document that could have been transported from its primitive-futuristic universe.
THE UNSPEAKABLE FREEDOM DEVICE film (40 mins) will be screened for the first time tonight and there will be a live performance from Simon Bookish (a.k.a Leo Chadburn) who composed the score. Buy Now.
