International Mother Languages Day at the Anthony Burgess Foundation: Poetry workshops with Mary Jean Chan, André Naffis-Sahely, David Shook and the Poetry Translation Centre.
The Manchester Writing School at Manchester Met will be celebrating the city’s recent designation as a UNESCO City of Literature with a series of events recognising International Mother Languages Day. This event features a series of taster poetry workshops on poetry translation, languages and film. Workshops will be led by the Writing School’s visiting fellows André Naffis-Sahely and David Shook, and special guests Mary Jean Chan and the Poetry Translation Centre. These sessions are open to everyone.
The workshops will run from 9.15am-5.30pm and attendance is free but places are strictly limited and subject to advanced booking via EventBrite. The full programme of sessions will be circulated to attendees ahead of the day.
There will also be an opportunity to go to a lunch-time reading of bilingual poetry hosted by Commonword at the Elizabeth Gaskell House, and the day will be followed by an evening poetry event.
