Meal: A Song Smelling of Oysters and Ruby Port
- Thu 14 Sep 2017
- 7:00 pm
An evening of food and performance celebrating the work of novelist and composer Anthony Burgess.
The evening will entail an aperitif and three course menu using recipes found within Burgess’s fiction. A series of playful interventions at the dinner table in response to his work will reconsider the possibilities of what a meal can be.
The meal marks the closing week of the exhibition No End to Enderby and the launch of the publication Hot Pots – a collection of artists’ writings in response to Burgess’s repeated use of a recipe for Lancashire Hot Pot in over 8 different pieces of his work. The publication has been developed by curator and FEAST editor Laura Mansfield in collaboration with Will Carr, Deputy Director of the International Anthony Burgess Foundation.
The location for this event is The Whitworth Cafe, Whitworth Art Gallery, Oxford Road, Manchester M15 6ER.
Food for the meal is provided by Peter Booth’s The Modern Caterer. The evening is curated by Laura Mansfield with the support of the International Anthony Burgess Foundation and Dust Collective. Book here.
