Concert: Mēla Guitar Quartet
- Fri 17 Feb 2017
- 7:00 pm
- £8.00
Discover some of the most extraordinary music written for guitar as the International Anthony Burgess Foundation welcomes the Mēla Guitar Quartet.
Expect an eclectic evening of music including landmark performances of Anthony Burgess’s Quatuor no.1, 1986 and Three Irish Morcels.
The Mēla quartet is Matthew Robinson, George Tarlton, Daniel Bovey and Jiva Housden. Between them, they have performed on BBC Radio 3 and 4, London Guitar Festival, Winchester Guitar Festival and, last year, at the opening of the Hendrix Museum. They play on guitars by master luthier Michael Gee.
This is part of the #Burgess100 Centenary, comprising a series of events and premiers to mark what would have been Burgess’s 100th birthday year. Other highlights include a season of Burgess-themed programmes on BBC Radio 3, A Life In Letters event, an exciting new theatre production of A Clockwork Orange, and the Observer/Anthony Burgess Prizes for Arts Journalism at King’s Place – a venue in which the Mēla Guitar Quartet have performed as part of the International Guitar Foundation’s Young Artists Platform.
Tickets are £8 advance and £10 on the door. We strongly recommend you buy in advance here.
