Music for Words Concert Series: Facade (entertainment)
- Wed 18 Mar 2015

The Burgess Foundation and new music ensemble Psappha are collaborating for a series of performances in which music takes inspiration from words. Featuring pieces by Kurtág, Stravinsky and Walton, the programme also includes three brand new commissions from contemporary composers drawing on material from the Burgess Foundation collection. Tonight’s performance features William Walton’s Façade (entertainment), written with Edith Sitwell in 1922. Walton’s witty and unconventional music takes the lead from a series of poems written by Sitwell in which the writer experiments with sound and rhythm. The concert closes with a new work from Daniel Kidane, the third and final commission from the composer in residence series. Tickets available from skiddle.com. Speaker, Richard Suart. Conducted by Mark Heron.
