Thursday 15 – Sunday 18 September (See opening times listed below)

The Swinging Sixties are the stuff of legend. But while some never had it so good, three million people were living in slums. Shelter was born out of the belief that this disparity was wrong and was driven by the determination to change things.

Now, the country is in the grip of another housing crisis. A huge range of people are affected by our current housing shortage – from a generation of young families who can’t afford a home, to those struggling to live in places too insecure or awful to call home.

Nick Hedges’s iconic photography helps us understand the harsh reality and history of homelessness. Juxtaposed with contemporary case studies, this event aims to raise awareness of current housing needs, Shelter’s services in Manchester and to rally ongoing support in the city by showcasing this striking work.
