Poetry Workshop: Burgess, Belli, Keats and the Sonnet
- Wed 20 Apr 2016
- 6:00 pm
- £0.00
This workshop will be led by Martin Kratz, who is currently working at the Burgess Foundation as an AHRC Cultural Engagement Fellow. In the 1970s, Burgess translated over 70 vulgar and often blasphemous sonnets by the nineteenth century Roman poet G.G. Belli. Belli also inspired translations by the beat poet Harold Norse and translations into Scots by Robert Garioch among others. Burgess’s translations eventually formed part of the novel ABBA ABBA, in which Burgess plays out a fictional meeting between Belli and another famous sonneteer the dying John Keats. Sign up now.
