4×4 Manchester: City of Change

Welcome back to another year of 4×4, a series of ‘TED-talk’ style events exploring the cities and urban places where we are increasingly choosing to build our lives. Held on four consecutive Wednesdays in May,each event will feature four diverse and interesting speakers, followed by a lively audience debate.

This year we explore the city in a state of flux. Cities have always been whirlwinds of metamorphosis, evolving minute by minute in a frenzy of innovation and destruction. Are we exhilarated by the acceleration, or would we like to put the brakes on and take a more leisurely and considered route into the future? Is the direction of change ultimately positive? Who are the winners and losers in this process and what role do we all play? Are we passive citizens, standing still as the city moves and grows around us, or can we shape the city to meet our ever-changing needs? In these centres of constant change, how do we come together and make lasting connections?

May 2nd: Creation

May 9th: Destruction

May 16th: Resurrection

May 23rd: Domination

TIME: 5.15 – 7.30
Please note: Doors (and bar) open at 5.15pm, talks begin at 5.45
