Words for Music Concert Series: The Soldier’s Tale

The Burgess Foundation and new music ensemble Psappha are collaborating for a series of performances in which music takes inspiration from words. Featuring pieces by Kurtág, Stravinsky and Walton, the programme also includes three brand new commissions from contemporary composers drawing on material from the Burgess Foundation collection. This evening offers a uniquely staged performance of Stravinsky’s The Soldier’s Tale, where the story of a soldier who sells his soul to the devil in return for untold wealth is presented alongside projections of live illustration from Chris Glynn. Chris will explore the story’s words and imagery in his Japanese kamishibai-inspired drawings, produced spontaneously throughout Psappha’s performance. The Soldier’s Tale will be followed by the world premiere of a new commission from Leo Geyer, inspired by his time in the archive at the Burgess Foundation. Narrator, Richard Suart. Tickets available from skiddle.com. See future listings for other performances in the series (18th Mar, Facade Entertainment).
