Do you have an interest in finding out more about the past, such as the history of your family, a building you like, or a local club or sports team? Not sure how to get started?
In this 10am-4pm workshop, Dr Fiona Cosson (University of Bournemouth) will introduce you to the ways in which doing oral history can contribute to our knowledge of the past, as well as being a fun and rewarding activity in its own right.
Oral history is a of way capturing a first-hand record of an individuals memories, life stories and experiences and provides a unique and personal insight into the past that a written document might not.
From interview techniques, to planning, and ethics, to the equipment you might need, processing interviews and sharing your interviews afterwards, there are many things to consider before starting an oral history project and this workshop will guide you through. You do not need any special knowledge or experience – just a general interest in history and the desire to research an area of history and heritage that is of interest to you.
The workshop is part of Manchester Histories’ Hidden Histories, Hidden Historians project supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund. Booking link coming soon.
