The International Anthony Burgess Foundation presents the centenary conference, ANTHONY BURGESS: LIFE, WORK, REPUTATION.

The centenary offers an opportunity to initiate new debates about Anthony Burgess’s biography and his wide-ranging artistic work. This conference welcomes an international group of Burgess experts presenting papers on subjects spanning Burgess’s early life in the north-west of England, his travels in Europe, America and Asia, and his later novels and music.

The conference includes a number of special events:

Monday 3 July: a tour of Burgess’s former school, Xaverian College, followed by a curator’s tour of the new Burgess exhibition at the Whitworth Art Gallery and a reception at Manchester University.

Tuesday 4 July: The BBC Philharmonic perform Raymond Yiu’s new song cycle The World Was Once All Miracle, inspired by the poetry of Anthony Burgess, alongside the European Premiere of Burgess’s Symphony in C. Full details of the concert can be found at the Manchester International Festival website: http://mif.co.uk/mif17-events/the-world-was-once-all-miracle/

Wednesday 5 July: an evening concert at the Burgess Foundation by musicians from Manchester University. The programme includes the world premiere of Burgess’s Concerto for Flute, Strings and Piano in D Minor (1951).

For the full programme click here.

The conference is open to everyone. Registration costs £20 (plus Eventbrite booking fee) and includes a freshly-made buffet lunch on all three days. Book your place now.
