A Black Pride_MCR Film screening of STONEWALL and MONICA – LOOSE ON A CRUISE.

Stonewall

(Dir Nigel Finch/UK 1995/99 mins)

The street riots fought between gay activists and the police around Stonewall Bar in New York 1969 are seen from the point of view of La Miranda Querides, a Puerto Rican drag queen, her lover Matty Dean, and her two best friends. The film celebrates their simple acts of defiance, rebellion and self-affirmation which culminated in three days of bloody rioting, and the birth of the modern gay rights movement.

A 1995 British-American historical comedy-drama film directed by Nigel Finch, his final film before his AIDS-related death shortly after filming ended.

This film screening will be accompanied by a drag king performance from Dick Slick, who will be doing a tribute to cabaret performer and Stonewall veteran Stormé DeLarverie.

Monica – Loose On A Cruise

(Dir Angie West and Veronica McKenzie/UK 2019/13 mins)

Monica takes the trip of a lifetime with younger friends Jai and Lyla. Random encounters and reflections on life, love and lesbians under the Caribbean sun.

There will be a question and answer session with screen writer of Stonewall – Rikki Beadle-Blair and star of Monica Loose on a Cruise, who is also Rikki’s mum, Monica.

A beautiful queer family affair!
