Please note this event has been postponed. A new date and opera line-up will follow.

AS ONE | Laura Kaminsky (2014)

As One is a coming-of-age, transgender opera in which two voices – Hannah Before (baritone) and Hannah After (mezzo-soprano) – share the part of a sole transgender protagonist.

Musicians from the Royal Northern College of Music present scenes from the opera, interspersed with talks from transgender guest speakers.

This project aims to challenge audiences with questions about identity, authenticity, compassion and the human desire for self-love and peace.

Hannah Before: Oscar Faulkner
Hannah After: Lowri Probert
Pianist: Aaron Breeze

Director: Rachel Routledge

MISS DONNITHORNE’S MAGGOT | Peter Maxwell Davies (1974)

Miss Donnithorne’s Maggot is a twisted one-woman opera based on the historical figure Miss Eliza Donnithorne – a widely cited inspiration for Charles Dickens’ Miss Havisham.

Jilted at the alter, she supposedly became a recluse, continuing to wear her bridal costume until the day of her death. Her funeral in May 1886 was her first outing in thirty years.

Musicians from the Royal Northern College of Music present a theatrical realisation of the work.
