‘The world has much solace to offer: love, food, music, the immense variety of race and language, literature and the pleasure of artistic creation’ – Anthony Burgess (1917–1993)

The International Anthony Burgess Foundation is an independent charity which supports educational and artistic work. Our mission is to encourage public and scholarly engagement with the life and work of Anthony Burgess. We provide a platform for new writing and music, enable academic research and creative expression, and work with partners to present a year-round programme of events.

By becoming a Friend of the Anthony Burgess Foundation, you will be helping to preserve our large collection of manuscripts and books, providing unparalleled insight into twentieth-century culture, viewed from the perspective of a major world writer. Every donation helps to support our work with Burgess readers, scholars and fans around the world.

A 12-month subscription costs £25. Membership of the Friends’ Scheme brings many benefits, including the following:

A copy of the annual End of the World Newsletter, featuring news of the Foundation’s activities, photography from the archive, and unpublished writing by Burgess.

Special offers and discounts on new publications.

A VIP invitation for you and a guest to attend the Observer/Burgess Prize ceremony in London.

Free admission to the annual Anthony Burgess Lecture.

Complimentary copies of our exhibition catalogues.
