The Burgess Bar

The Burgess Bar signage mock-up

The fully-licensed Burgess Bar is set in the Georgian industrial splendour of Chorlton Mill on Cambridge Street, close to Oxford Road station. We are open during public events at the Burgess Foundation.

When you hire the Burgess Foundation for your event, the bar offers a wide range of beers, wines, soft drinks and snacks. As well as being a great space for audiences to gather, the bar can be configured as a box office, guest registration area, or a break-out space for workshops.

The Burgess Bar is home to a portrait of Anthony Burgess, commissioned from the renowned artist Stanley Chow. You can buy a limited-edition A3 print of this artwork for £12, available only at the Foundation.

We have a range of books by Anthony Burgess on sale, and a permanent exhibition illuminating the life of Manchester’s finest author.

The daytime café is currently closed, but event hire is available at any time of day, or in the evening. To hire the space, or to discuss drinks receptions and catering options, contact Ian Carrington via our Venue Hire page.

The Burgess Foundation and the Burgess Bar are wheelchair accessible, with an access toilet located on the ground floor. If you would like to plan special assistance for your visit, please get in touch.
