Concert: hispid – RAVE

hispid: RAVE is a concert about dance music featuring works by living composers that will include acoustic and electronic sounds.

“hispid” is a new music ensemble that loves freedom and variety. It specialises in putting on concerts of open score music, which is music written for an unspecified ensemble (no specification of what instruments must be involved). This allows for some unusual combinations of forces, and results in a bespoke, varied, and often unexpected soundscape within pieces. “hispid” combines this liberating perspective with a strong focus on championing contemporary composers. It works closely alongside them to deliver the most accurate and expressive experience of their works possible.

In “hispid: RAVE”, the sound-world of electronic dance music will be explored, challenged, and expanded. It will feature works by composers Kámea Németh, Patrick Gorry, Emmy Lambert, Kuba Williams, Rosie Shapes Tickle, Emily Dunbar, and Rob Hughes. The performers comprise of musicians from the RNCM.

Audiences will sit in a circle around the music-makers, and lights will be down low. Expect high sound levels and prepare hearing protection as needed. There will be an intermission of 15 minutes halfway through.
