A genre-fluid jam and performance, featuring music with no name, inspired by global traditions. Bring your instruments and ears.

Kabantu – “of the people….I am who I am because of who we all are” – is an award winning folk fusion collective from Manchester who unravel unique marriages of music from around the globe. Embracing the space where musical cultures meet, they compose, collaborate, and improvise- bringing a new identity to global folk music.

Tonight, Kabantu launch “Co-Lab” – a biannual, Manchester-based concert series to showcase original music and collaborative new works written with world-class, local artists from diverse musical backgrounds. The evening will also host an informal, experimental jam session so our audience can either sit back and enjoy music in the making or get involved on their own instruments.

This debut concert features Rioghnach Connolly (2019 BBC Radio 2 Folk Singer of the Year), a local traditional Irish singer – lead singer of The Breath, Band of Burns, Afrocelt Sound System and Honeyfeet.
