Concert: SONO Ensemble – 4/5

Join the SONO ensemble for a concert broadcast live from the International Anthony Burgess Foundation on 19 December 2020, from 7pm until 8pm GMT.

The SONO ensemble was formed in Manchester, UK by a couple of Lithuanian musicians,  cellist Gunda Baranauskaitė and pianist Ugnius Pauliukonis.

Their main idea was to create a shape-shifting ensemble of like-minded musicians with a freedom to perform not only the chamber pieces we are all familiar with, but also dive into the modern day repertoire and explore the gems of contemporary music.

In every concert the audience will be presented with a contrasting programme consisting of at least one well-known piece side by side with a less familiar nonetheless exciting repertoire.

The ensemble’s wish is to provide the listener a chance to approach new repertoire with an ease and have an opportunity to grow fond of it while still appreciating the good-old classics.

SONO Ensemble:
Piano – Ugnius Pauliukonis
Violins – Ruta Labutyte & Oliver Baily
Viola – Rosamund Hawkins
Cello – Gunda Baranauskaite

4/5 repertoire:
Caroline Shaw, ‘Plan & Elevation’ for String Quartet
Antonin Dvorak Piano Quintet no.2 in A major, op.82

Access the live stream via the SONO website , watch live on YouTube or view below.

This concert is being managed with strict Covid-19 safety procedures, with no audience present and all participants observing distancing measures in accordance with government guidance and risk assessments by the Burgess Foundation.
