Literature: Manchester Indie Book Fair

Manchester-based publisher Dostoyevsky Wannabe, fresh from organising their first Manchester Indie Book Fair last summer, team up with the Anthony Burgess Foundation to put on Manchester Indie Book Fair 2.

In keeping with the first event, the emphasis is on an unbuttoned, relaxed afternoon showcasing the wealth of indie literary activity in Manchester and the north of England. There’ll be no formal programme of events on the day (no readings, performances, etc – check out Manchester’s many excellent performance and poetry reading nights for that) and no spoons tapping onto wine glasses or rattling of jewellery to get your attention so please just come down for the afternoon and bring your friends, buy indie books and support indie booksellers, stick around, chat, meet people, drink, buy more books, have a coffee, have another and chat some more. It’s easy!

The invisible Astronaut Wives Club Dostoyevsky Wannabe DJs will even provide a bit of book-browsing music at book-browsing volume to encourage you to stick around and the Anthony Burgess bar (just to the side of the main room) has your back when it comes to refreshment. See – we’ve thought of everything to ease your post-Christmas existential crisis.

Alongside Dostoyevsky Wannabe, we have a whole load of ace presses for you including:

If P then Q, Comma Press, Generic Greeting, Nightjar, Carcanet, Dodo Ink, Zimzalla, Knives, Forks and Spoons, Incline and Saraband. Blue Moose books (Hebden Bridge) and Synchronise Witches (Huddersfield), along with And Other Stories, Longbarrow Press, The Poetry Business and Gordian Projects (all Sheffield) join us from Yorkshire and last but not least Dead Ink (Liverpool/north-west) will also be there.

More presses this time around means a need for even more readers and more people interested in indie literature (and indie culture more generally) to get down for this one so please bring a friend or two, and come hang out for the afternoon: 12pm until 6pm on Saturday 2nd February 2019, no booking required.
