La Pioggia nel Pineto

La pioggia nel pineto (1988) celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of the death of the Italian writer and nationalist leader Gabriele d’Annunzio. The poem is set for tenor and piano, and Burgess’s chromatic style mimics the rainfall on pine trees described in it. The piece is twelve minutes long. Premiered in the spring of 1988, the most recent performance took place at the Burgess Foundation in 2011.
